Tanzania Safaris FAQ

The best time to go on a safari in Tanzania is during the dry season, also known as the high season, when visibility is better for spotting wildlife. The months of September, October, March, and April are generally recommended.

You should pack comfortable, casual clothing in neutral colors like beige, green, or brown. You should also bring a rain jacket, warm sweater, hat, socks, sunglasses, and a swimsuit. You should also bring a camera with a wide lens for scenery and a telephoto lens for animals.

Wildlife encounters are not guaranteed, but Tanzania is known for its wildlife, especially cats like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. You might also see elephants, giraffes, or baboons.

There are no mandatory vaccinations for Tanzania, but you should provide proof of Yellow Fever vaccination if you’re from a country with ongoing transmission. You should also take malaria tablets because malaria is prevalent in Tanzania.

  •
Some say you should plan for at least four full days of game drives, plus time for travel and arrival and departure. Others say that 6–7 days is optimal.

Group sizes for tours and safaris in Tanzania range from 8–25 people, depending on the trip.

Most lodges in Tanzania have a maximum group size of 30 people, but many are smaller and only accommodate 12–16 guests.

High season. For excellent game viewing, the high season (dry season) is best in a Tanzania safari. The dryness visibility is better thus it is easier to spot the wildlife. In the High season, you will witness more tourists.
